House Painting Work That Can Be Done Yourself

It's not as easy as it looks, but one job that pretty much anyone can do on their house is painting. Determined by how much time you have lived in your house, and how long it has been since it was painted, you'll know how difficult the job will be. If you do the appropriate prep work and you make the time, you will be able to save some money doing the work yourself. It is best to hire someone to do the job for you, if you want to take off from your job to do it.
At some point the color on your wall will start to peel or perhaps warp and look ugly. The one immediate option is to obtain a paint scraper and scrape off the peeling paint. If your home might be very old, it is likely that you may have a number of coats of paint underneath. This is a more challenging job when the previous paint was an oil-based paint. Once you have the peeled paint stripped off, and scraped as best as you can, then you need to putty the holes in the wood, spackle the bare spots in the drywall, and next, sand it as good as you can. If you're done, then simply remove the dust and give it the chance to completely dry. You might want to delay 24 hours before it dries completely.
One of the even bigger problems with older homes is from moisture build-up. Paint will begin to crack when you have condensation as well as leaks. You will see this typically in the bathroom, where mold and mildew will likely grow. Though commonly discovered in the bathroom, you may have this problem in other parts of your house. Water leaks could cause paint cracks along with shrubs that are too close to the house. If you have cracking paint caused by too much moisture, then you need to think about a different solution. Since you probably will have mildew, and if it happens to be on the inside, you will need a solution consisting of one part bleach and three parts water. If it is outside the home, merely use the solution that comes with a pressure washer.
Another problem that requires a painter, is when the color is fading, which normally happens on the exterior. It may possibly occur inside, but it is essentially caused when exposed to the hot sun. To minimize fade, avoid using bright colors like red for your house. If you want a bit of expression color, consider golden or ruddy tone.
